Details of Formation: Pro-Gaddafi civilians in Tripoli wanted to show loyalty to regime when uprisings began on 23 August 2011 and decided to fight for survival of regime.
Details of Termination: As the People’s Militia was an initiative to fight for Gaddafi, it is coded terminated with the fall or Gaddafi in October 2011.
Purpose: The militia’s purpose for the government was to fight on the local level against rebels and thereby free troops for heavier duties to the east.
Organisation: The government incentivized membership by providing a car and money as reward for recruiting members.
Weapons and Training: Members were given weapons via the Revolutionary Committees. The People’s Militia had automatic rifles, such as AK-47s.

Reason for Membership: Members were mostly young men that were supporters of Gaddafi and wanted to contribute to the fight against levels. The government offered a car and money to any supporter who brought three people with him to join the effort.
