Details of Formation: The leader and founder of North Korea, Kim Il-Sung, established the “Young Red Guards” in 1970 in order to strengthen his self-defense system of which everybody should be a part of.
Details of Termination: PGM still exists by the end of 2014.
Purpose: The PGM was founded by Kim Il-Sung who planned to strengthen national security with militias. The Young Red Guards are similar to the Workers-Peasant Red Guards from their basic idea and structure, they seem like the youth version of the Workers-Peasant Red Guards. They integrate youths in North Koreas military system and prepare young persons for the military. It was part of an effort to secure the entire population’s support for the military structure and regime in the country, ensuring readiness to defend it when necessary.
Organisation: The PGM is the youth branch of the Korean People’s Army and subordinated to the local military affairs departments.
